A BLACK MAN, 50-something, down on his luck from the way he was dressed, gave me a thumbs-up this morning and patted his heart (you could almost hear it, he patted it so emphatically) as he came toward the sign and me. When he came close, he pointed at the sign and he said deeply, ‘Everyone deserves that chance!’
