The New Yorker talks with Marty Baron who is leaving as editor of the Washington Post at the end of the month. If you don’t know him from the Post, you know him as the editor of the Boston Globe in the movie  ‘Spotlight’. This is a good conversation:

I read this when it came out in 2004. I read it again maybe 10 years ago. It’s Volume One. Where’s Volume Two the world wonders. He likes the world wondering that way probably. I picked the book off a little table by my bed last night. I’d put it there not long ago to remind me to look at it again. I just read the first page. Here it is:

IT’S SOMETIMES TOO WARM IN HERE

Civilization must come

from the walls

we made against

the wind and the animals.

It’s been cozy in my apartment

since I got up.

I can see outside through a window

in a wall

in each room.

I open both windows twice

each day to

let fresh air blow

in

and push out what’s stale on

this side of the wall.

I want to photograph

the snow.

I’ll go outside to do that.
