Remember when you got an album that was good because not everybody had it and it was hard to understand what the lyrics meant and you knew it was important for you to be listening to it even if you hadn't been told that. You had bought it on some impulse. Maybe you liked the look or the title. Or you were in the mood to take a chance on something. On your own. It was one of those days, or one of those minutes. You had to get it.
Joshua Cohen is a writer of novels and essays. He's like those albums.
I'm reading a book of his essays now. It's called Attention. His novels are brilliant. You have to work. Google him.
